After being nominated for the Fourth Circuit last September, Justice Barbara Keenan was confirmed last week by the Senate, 99-0. She was formerly a judge in the Fairfax County General District Court as well as the Fairfax County Circuit Court, but has served on the Virginia Supreme Court since 1991.
Her appointment to the Fourth Circuit left the Virginia General Assembly a vacancy to fill on the Virginia bench. Yesterday, they appointed Bill Mims, a former Attorney General for Virginia as well as a state legislator who served multiple terms in both the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate. He is only the second person to have served in all three roles of Virginia legislator, Virginia AG, and a Virginia Supreme Court Justice.
Justice Mims’ term will begin on April 1st.
